Personal Essentials to Carry

Items indicated with * are those things which are available in Masaka.  Hence, if you are short on space or heavy on weight, you might choose to purchase them once you arrive in Uganda.  Of course, there are markets with lots of used clothing so if you donít bring a certain article of clothing and discover a need for it, you can always find it in the market! Most toiletries are available in supermarkets but if you are brand loyal, you might want to consider bringing enough for your whole trip.   Insect repellent, anti-itch ointments (Benadryl, Calamine lotion, etc) and medications are best brought from home.

Other Essentials you may consider:

  • Bedsheets
  • Light-weight towel*
  • Mosquito netting*
  • First Aid kit
  • Insect repellent
  • Soap/Shampoo/Toiletries*
  • Suntan lotion*
  • Lip protectant (with SPF of at least 15, Blistex, etc)
  • Sunglasses
  • Hip pack for odds and ends
  • Flashlight with plenty of extra batteries* and bulbs (we highly recommend a head-lamp style light with an LED bulb, check any outdoor outfitter store)
  • Travel alarm clock
  • Sewing kit (if you enjoy sewing)
  •  Camera with plenty of film* / extra memory card. Films can also be obtained in Uganda.
  • Binoculars (splendid if you plan to go on safari)
  •  A journal
